RACING HISTORY...
Reece's Racing History, in his own words...
FIRST ENCOUNTER: My first encounter with Road Racing was in Liverpool at the Aintree MCRC (motorcycle racing club) when I was 7. We went watching one of my dads old friends who we had heard was racing. From that day on I fell in love with the sport. We went to as many club races possible. My dad always wanted me and my brothers to race but we just never had the opportunity.
GETTING INTO RACING: I started riding motorcycles when I was 11 years old. I rode a champ 125cc Chinese import around the fields surrounding my house. When I was 12 I was bought a Honda CR80 motocross bike. I never raced but I did get quite competent on a motorcycle. My dad always said that we only got into motocross because it would teach me how to ride a bike; the whole idea was to get us into road racing.
FIRST RACING EXPERIENCE: My road racing adventure began on a track day at Oulton Park. On the way home from watching a friend we stopped by at a Motorcycle shop. Surprisingly my dad got me measured up and bought me my first set of leathers. The next day we returned to the shop to get the rest of my gear.
EARLY RACING CAREER: Shortly that year when I was 13 I had my first race. It was at Three Sisters Go Kart Track in Wigan. I was riding an Aprilia RS 125 2001 model. Amazingly I won the race by over 20 seconds however the level of competition was very low so it was a false dawn into my career. We were planning to compete in the rest of the Three Sisters championship however it was cheaper to compete at the Scottish Round of the National Series, The Aprilia Superteens. Fresh from my win at Three Sisters I was booming with confidence only to qualify last and get lapped in all four races. I was amazed at how fast the front runners could go. I could have only dreamed of racing like that. The rest of 2005 and 2006 I spent mainly on the floor, crashing a more than half of the entered races. We later found out that the crashing was due to the bike as it was highly underpowered and poorly set up.
2007... GETTING COMPETITIVE: 2007 was to be a better year. I had a new Aprilia RS 125 with a fully tuned engine and a well setup suspension. The change was obvious as in the first 2 races I finished third. The weekend didn't’t end so well as in the last race I was heading for the lead when I was knocked off and had my neck run over knocking me unconscious for over 5 minutes. I spent the night in Dartford hospital under watch from the doctors. The next few races were difficult but I soon got back into my stride finishing 5th overall with 11 thirds 2 seconds ad 1 win.
2008... THE BIG CHALLENGE: This year I will be competing in the Triumph Triple Challenge, please refer to my blog for full race reviews.
